Me and the Kiwi<\/b> is the story of an unexpected detour that became the destination. We met on a plane, jumped in a truck two weeks later, and six years on, we\u2019re still choosing each other and the road. Between Chris’ life as a helicopter pilot and my world as an author and screenwriter, we\u2019ve built a partnership rooted in a relentless spirit of adventure.<\/p>\n

Between the deep work of screenwriting\u2014adapting a piece from my essay collection Shelter in Motion<\/i> into a feature screenplay, (fingers crossed for the Slamdance Film Festival)<\/em>\u2014we are celebrating the simple, profound magic of a life lived outdoors. Right now, our path is taking us on a multi-continental turn: we’re heading down to Mexico to work on our sailboat and looking ahead to travels in New Zealand, while Buster stays behind to work on his official film debut! This is our life in real-time. It\u2019s a celebration of the bohemian path, the grease under our fingernails, and the beauty of staying in motion.<\/p>\n

Our Story<\/h2>\n

The Writer.<\/b> I\u2019m an award-winning author and screenwriter with a love for stories lived along the edges. My essay collection, Shelter in Motion<\/i><\/a>, is out now, and I have finished a feature screenplay adaptation of one of the essays, The King’s Basketball<\/em>, with eyes on the Slamdance Film Festival. Between penning scripts and practicing yoga at the trailhead, I\u2019m proving that home isn\u2019t a fixed point\u2014it\u2019s a creative practice.<\/p>\n

The Kiwi.<\/b> He\u2019s a helicopter pilot from New Zealand\u2014my partner, my biggest supporter, and the reason this nomadic life takes flight. Chris bought us Buster<\/b> so we could bridge the gap between his seasonal cockpit and my writing desk. Yeah, he\u2019s definitely a keeper.<\/p>\n

The Journey<\/b> From an airplane seat to a truck cab to a sailboat to a 1973 Sumatra Green Westfalia\u2014we are living proof that shelter isn’t always a building. Sometimes it\u2019s a person. Sometimes it\u2019s a 53-year-old engine. And sometimes it\u2019s choosing the uncertainty of the open road over the comfort of the status quo.<\/p>\n
